Like any operation, complications can occur during and after rhinoplasty procedures, however these are very rare. Surgeons must discuss the potential complications with patients to ensure that they are fully aware of any risks.
Some possible complications include;
– Severe bruising
– Infection and numbness to the nose and teeth (although permanent numbness is unusual)
– Septal perforation. This is a more serious complication in which a hole forms inside the cartilage septum in the nose. Fortunately, this problem rarely occurs with more experienced surgeons.
– Loss of sense of smell. This is a very rare complication that can happen but is extremely uncommon.
